HEALTH TIPS FOR PEOPLE WHO SIT ON COMPUTER FOR LONG HOURS

1) POSTURE PROBLEM

  • Whenever you sit keep your back straight with a proper cushion for lumbar or lower back support. Sit on a table & chair. Never sit on the bed or on the floor with lap top on your lap.
  • Get up after every hour and move around for 2 minutes regularly. Go for a walk morning or evening or exercise or do a simple household work. This improves the blood circulation and burns up calories.
  • In between the working hours, take a small break & move your neck, hands, legs, back & shoulders to releave the strain.

2) EYE STRAIN

  • Your eye level should be 2-3 inches below the top of the monitor.
  • Adjust the font size & color. The font size should be 2-3 times the size of the smallest text that you can read. Black text on white background works best.
  • Balance your brightness & contrast to lower levels .
  • Eye strain is often caused by excessive bright light either from outdoor sunlight coming through a window or bright interior light. Thus, the ambient light should not be very bright.
  • There should be no glares on the screen. Adjust the screen.
  • BLINKING lubricates your eyes.
  • Splash cold water on eyes to refresh them twice a day.
  • CLOSE your eyes for few seconds in between.
  • 20-20-20 rule – After 20 mins of working on computer, take a break for 20 seconds & look 20 feet away.
  • Look at a green patch outside the window or look at the blue sky. Green & blue are soothing colors for eyes.
  • Rub your palms & do eye cupping . The warmth relaxes your eye muscles.

3) RADIATION EFFECTS

Electromagnetic fields (E.M. F) also called RADIATIONS are toxic to the body cells. The under side of your laptop emits 100 milli Gauss radiation which enters your body when you keep it on your lap. This has lead to increase in cases of infertility. So, keep it on your table , around 7 inches to 15 inches away from your body.

  • Minimize use of computer & gadgets in the evening. Blue light emitted by mobile phone, laptops & computers have been found to disrupt sleep patterns. SWITCH OFF YOUR MOBILE WHEN YOU SLEEP.
  • Keep your mobile at least 3 feet away from you when you go to sleep.
  • Switch on your mobile data or wifi only when needed.

4) KEEP YOUR DESK CLEAN

Your work area is teaming with microorganisms.
Sanitize your keyboard, desk, computer, laptop daily. Keep a hand sanitizer near your table.

5) KEEP HEALTHY SNACKS AT YOUR DESK

चने, मुरमुरे, मखाने or Any seasonal fruit like apple, banana, Dry fruits like अखरोट, बदाम, किशमिश, पिस्ता I Keep a water bottle to keep yourself well hydrated. Avoid caffinated drinks. Enjoy green tea instead.
Because of long hours of sitting, digestion may get disordered, so avoid fried and oily food. Include fresh fruits & vegetables & salads in your diet.

6) TAKE A DEEP BREATH :-

This oxygenates your mind & body. Reguvinates you.

7) SIDE EFFECTS OF HEAD PHONES & PREVENTIVE MEASURES

Tinnitis , Hearing loss, Dizziness, Ear infections , Ear pain.

  • Lower the volume – Most effective way is to turn down the volume. Set the volume to less than 60% of the maximum volume.
  • Choose headphones over earbuds. Earbuds are closer to your ear drum , so you may experience hearing loss .
  • Adopt 60/60 rule – Experts suggest, 60/60 rule. Listen to the audio track/ music at 60% of your device volume for 60 minutes at a time and take a break.

    Out of many new facts , the one which said, earbuds can cause hearing loss as they’re closer to our ear drums so it is advisable to use headphones, was the most eye opening to me.
