Silence

“WE ARE ALL A FOUNTAIN HEAD OF JOY AND WE CAN HAVE A GLIMPSE OF THAT JOY WHEN WE ARE NOT THINKING THIS OR THAT” – DADA BHAGWAN

SILENCE is our real nature. The whole nature such as the trees, plants, flowers, the sky, clouds, sun, all are functioning perfectly in silence. Then why does man make all the noise?

Once a disciple went to his Spiritual Master & there he was given a task to be completed. Now while working on the task, a thought of ego came to his mind- “I am doing such a great job for my Guru…I am so great” and so he started feeling superior. But the next moment the Master made him realize something from within.

The inner voice said, “My Master has done so much for my spiritual evolvement. Taking care of all the needs such as while I was working, He served food to keep my body energetic. He gave His time, energy & guided me in completing the task. All this was done with great love & in silence. He gave me a chance to serve but look at me; ego is all that I have”. Carrying the load of this ego, he felt so much heavy inside.

All sorrow is due to this noise machine called The Mind which we all possess. The more we identify with this noise machine, the more our life becomes unhappy. A man has around 150 – 180 thoughts per minute on an average. Thanks to the pharmaceutical companies for making the sleeping pills or else the world would go mad.

We are the observer of this mind but to our amazement, this mind is controlling us.

Spiritual Master says; to come in Silence (Our Real Nature), practice

  • Outer Silence
  • Inner Silence

HOW TO ACHIEVE OUTER SILENCE?

In order to practice outer silence, ask yourself the following questions before conversing,

  1. Is it the truth?
  2. What will be its consequences?
  3. Repeat the words in your mind. Is it necessary for me to speak out these words? If not, then do not speak.
  4. Watch your words. {“I have often regretted my speech, never my silence”}
  • The words should not be blaming or hurting.
  • Be clean rather than clever.
  • We often speak out unnecessarily to show our intelligence.

HOW TO ACHIEVE INNER SILENCE?

The awakened one is the observer of his mind; he uses the mind when needed & when not required, he comes in Self. But does this happen with us…? No, the noise machine keeps chattering. So, how to achieve silence?

  1. LIVE IN THE PRESENT MOMENT-
Mostly the thoughts of past & future haunt our mind which creates chaos in life. So, to come in silence, come in the present moment.
  2. EGOLESS & DESIRELESS, YOU ARE THOUGHTLESS-
When the ego & desires are heightened the mind runs faster. When things do not happen our way, the mind becomes restless. Satguru says, when we do not know our Real Self then we live only at the mental level. Man wants permanent happiness from temporary things such as position, power & money. How can he get it…?? Thus man creates misery for himself. Without the knowledge of our Real Self, man is only a mind.
  3. ALL GREAT WORKS OF ART ARE ACHIEVED WHEN THE MIND IS SILENT-
All great works such as poetry, discoveries, creativity, inventions, & great acts of bravery happen, when the mind is quiet as this is the moment when we are connected to The Supreme. Once a disciple believed that he could never have good writing skills. But to his amazement, when he came under the guidance of his Divine Master, his ability to pen down the thoughts developed & bloomed. The Master says, “When the mind is silent, we are connected to The Supreme (Satguru), which reinforces our creativity from within. Thus the genius of which we are unaware of blossoms”.
  4. ACCEPTANCE-
The more we accept life & its situations, the more smiling & silent we become from inside. Resentment brings bitterness & problems in life.

CONCLUSION-

Thinking is not our Real nature. Silence is our true nature. Silence is bliss. So, to come in silence, start meditating for one minute, then for two minutes & then go on increasing the time span. Meditate by focusing on your breath. While waiting in a queue for the doctor, stuck up in traffic jam or waiting for your bus or metro, just concentrate on your breath or listen to a spiritual discourse (Guru Vani). Don’t get irritated; don’t mix with your mind. Be the observer of your thoughts (Saakshi).

    Beautiful article.
